With the proper photo editing software, you can crop the images to the correct dimensions and ensure the file size won’t slow down your site, but you will also be able to adjust the lighting and highlight the key elements in your photos. This brings us to today’s topic: the best photo editing software in 2022. This will have a positive impact on your site loading times and, in turn, help you rank better in search engines. On top of that, editing your images before uploading them to your site will help reduce the file size. You must also edit the photos to ensure that all images have the exact dimensions for a more unified look. Whether you’re a photographer wanting to show off their portfolio or a business owner that wants to add a personal touch to their site, photos can add visual interest, help you tell your story, and otherwise enhance your website.īut, before you upload them to your site, you need to edit the photos to match the look and feel you want your brand to portray. Choosing the right photo editing software is equally as important. But Generally speaking it seems that Adobe Photoshop and Pixelmator Pro generate the goods at a reasonable speed while Affinity Photo 2 is trailing behind both of them. When it comes to your website, images are essential. For some tricky images you probably want to test each program as one program can generate complete garbage when another creates an almost perfect solution. Each program created their own quirky artifacts and different runs of the content aware fill will generate different results. With taking 30 seconds and more for some of the images this is clearly disruptive and a major disadvantage. Affinity Photo 2 is clearly playing in a different league (but not in a good way). Pixelmator Pro is not too bad either with only a few seconds behind the Photoshop. Not only is faster than the other programs it is also consistent across different images. Here are the measured results in seconds:Īs can be seen from those numbers Adobe Photshop is the clear winner when it comes to performance.

Oscar Wilde once remarked that "Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence. In the end, I sucked it up until my first enlistment ended. However even my vapor-locked squid brain realized that life aboard even the very cool and secretive NR-1 probably wouldn't be that great, in addition to sticking me on the east coast for a while. I would have been on board at the time of Challenger Space Shuttle mission. Nothing was said about the conditions aboard the ship or its mission, merely the strict requirements to even apply. I had a pretty high GPA at Nuclear Power School and met the good conduct criteria. I actually considered re-enlisting for a billet on this interesting vessel (mainly to get off the ship I was then serving on). These would have sunk to the ocean floor, and NR-1 was used to recover them, prevent unfriendly states (the Soviet Union) from getting them and reverse engineering them. Īnother public reason the Navy used this ship was to recover advanced aviation electronics and missiles from aircraft lost overboard from aircraft carriers. All personnel that crewed NR-1 were nuclear-trained and specifically screened and interviewed by the Director, Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program. "It was only a matter of whether you were throwing up or not throwing up." NR-1 was generally towed to and from remote mission locations by an accompanying surface tender, which was also capable of conducting research in conjunction with the submarine. Holifield, who commanded the sub in the mid-1970s. "Everybody on NR-1 got sick," said Allison J. The sub was so slow that it was towed to sea by a surface vessel, and so tiny that the crew felt the push and pull of the ocean's currents. They ate frozen TV dinners, bathed once a week with a bucket of water and burned chlorate candles to produce oxygen. The crew of about 10 men could stay at sea for as long as a month, but had no kitchen or bathing facilities. The NR-1's size limited its crew comforts. NR-1 remained submerged and on station even when heavy weather and rough seas hit the area and forced all other search and recovery ships into port. Because it could remain on the sea floor without resurfacing frequently, NR-1 was a major tool for searching deep waters. Following the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986, NR-1 was used to search for, identify, and recover critical parts of the Challenger craft. Surface vision was provided by a television periscope permanently installed on a fixed mast in her sail area. Its features included extending bottoming wheels, three viewing ports, exterior lighting, television and still cameras for color photographic studies, an object recovery claw, a manipulator that could be fitted with various gripping and cutting tools and a work basket that could be used in conjunction with the manipulator to deposit or recover items in the sea. NR-1 performed underwater search and recovery, oceanographic research missions and installation and maintenance of underwater equipment to a depth of almost half a nautical mile. In fact, when you look below the waterline, she's really weird! She clearly isn't intended to go anywhere quickly. Cute, ain't she? You can tell she isn't a warship because of the clutter on her deck. The passenger oxygen light illuminated when, at an altitude of approximately 18,000 feet (5,500 m), the oxygen masks in the passenger cabin automatically deployed. One or both of the equipment cooling warning lights came on to indicate low airflow through the cooling fans (a result of the decreased air density), accompanied by the master caution light. In the next few minutes, several warning lights on the overhead panel in the cockpit illuminated. The alert sound is identical for both warnings. As it passed through an altitude of 12,040 feet (3,670 m), the cabin altitude warning horn sounded. The warning should have prompted the crew to stop climbing, but it was misidentified by the crew as a take-off configuration warning, which signals that the aircraft is not ready for take-off, and can only sound on the ground. During these checks, no one on the flight deck noticed the incorrect setting. The aircraft took off with the pressurization system still set to "manual," and the aft outflow valve partially open.Īs the aircraft climbed, the pressure inside the cabin gradually decreased. In order to carry out this check without requiring the aircraft's engines, the pressurization system was set to "manual." However, the engineer failed to reset it to "auto" on completion of the test.Īfter the aircraft was returned into service, the flight crew overlooked the pressurization system state on three occasions: during the pre-flight procedure, the after-start check, and the after take-off check. They requested a full inspection of the door. The inspection was carried out by a ground engineer, who then performed a pressurization leak check. When the aircraft arrived from London earlier that morning, the previous flight crew had reported a frozen door seal, and abnormal noises coming from the right aft service door. It was the deadliest aviation accident in Greek history. A loss of cabin pressurization incapacitated the crew, leaving the aircraft flying on autopilot until it ran out of fuel, and crashed near Grammatiko, Greece. Helios Airways Flight 522 was a scheduled passenger flight from Larnaca, Cyprus to Prague, Czech Republic, with a stopover to Athens, Greece, that crashed on 14 August 2005, killing all 121 passengers and crew on board. For a 7.62 mm NATO rifle, the AR-10 was incredibly lightweight at only 6.85 lb (3.11 kg) empty. The final prototype featured an upper and lower receiver with the now-familiar hinge and takedown pins, and the charging handle was on top of the receiver placed inside of the carry handle. It had rugged elevated sights, an oversized aluminum flash suppressor and recoil compensator, and an adjustable gas system. The AR-10 featured an innovative straight-line barrel/stock design, forged aluminum alloy receivers, and with phenolic composite stocks. ArmaLite entered the competition late, hurriedly submitting several AR-10 prototype rifles in the fall of 1956 to the U.S. Springfield Armory's T44E4 and heavier T44E5 were essentially updated versions of the M1 chambered for the new 7.62 mm round, while Fabrique Nationale submitted their FN FAL as the T48. Army then began testing several rifles to replace the obsolete M1. This culminated in the development of the 7.62×51 mm NATO cartridge. 30 caliber cartridge be developed, that could not only be used by the new automatic rifle but by the new general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) in concurrent development. However, senior American commanders, having faced fanatical enemies and experienced major logistical problems during World War II and the Korean War, insisted that a single, powerful. American weapons designers concluded that an intermediate round was necessary, and recommended a small-caliber, high-velocity cartridge. However, combat experience suggested that the. During the Korean War, the select-fire M2 carbine largely replaced the submachine gun in US service and became the most widely used carbine variant. However, early experiments with select-fire versions of the M1 Garand proved disappointing. After World War II, the United States military started looking for a single automatic rifle to replace the M1 Garand, M1/M2 Carbines, M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, M3 "Grease Gun" and Thompson submachine gun. 30 in (7.62 mm) caliber as "full-sized" for the next 35 years. The US military has largely replaced the M16 in frontline combat units with a shorter and lighter version, the M4 carbine. Total worldwide production of M16s is approximately 8 million, making it the most-produced firearm of its 5.56 mm caliber. The M16 has also been widely adopted by other armed forces around the world. It is equipped with a removable carrying handle and Picatinny rail for mounting optics and other ancillary devices. Adopted in July 1997, the M16A4 is the fourth generation of the M16 series. The M16A2 fires the improved 5.56×45mm (M855/SS109) cartridge and has a newer adjustable rear sight, case deflector, heavy barrel, improved handguard, pistol grip, and buttstock, as well as a semi-auto and three-round burst fire selector. In 1983, the US Marine Corps adopted the M16A2 rifle, and the US Army adopted it in 1986. The M16A1 incorporated numerous modifications including a bolt-assist, chrome-plated bore, protective reinforcement around the magazine release, and revised flash hider. In 1969, the M16A1 replaced the M14 rifle to become the US military's standard service rifle. In 1964, the M16 entered US military service and the following year was deployed for jungle warfare operations during the Vietnam War. The original M16 rifle was a 5.56×45mm automatic rifle with a 20-round magazine. The M16 rifle (officially designated Rifle, Caliber 5.56 mm, M16) is a family of military rifles adapted from the ArmaLite AR-15 rifle for the United States military. Similar to boxing, a gorilla’s punch force depends on its weight and velocity at the moment of the impact. However, this doesn’t mean that gorillas go around throwing powerful punches. Compared to the average man, silverback gorillas have a punch force about 30 times stronger. Silverback gorillas have a punch force up to 2,700 pounds – strong enough to shatter bones with one slam. Grooming among gorillas is important, but not as important as in other primates.Īlexander H. Gorillas build nests in different locations, a new one every day as gorillas do not sleep in the same place two consecutive nights since they keep moving while foraging, and they do not stay at the same location for more than one day to avoid depleting their food sources. Later they resume the search for food and at the end of the day, before nightfall, they build nests in the trees or on the ground to sleep at night. During the morning and afternoon, they focus on their food, and they take a nap at noon. Adult females are usually not related to each other, and it is common to compete to be near the leader, as this provides further protection to them and their offspring. Gorillas do not sleep in the same place two consecutive nights. But in the case of the eastern lowland gorilla groups ( Gorilla beringei graueri), female gorillas can stay in the same place waiting until a new dominant male arrives and protect them. If the leader dies, the other males take the opportunity to mate with the females available and can become the next leader. If one or more unrelated females join a lone individual, a new social group that increases over time is created. Some mature males may try to beat the head of a group to become the new leader. Some males may venture to defeat the leader to become the new one. The exception occasionally occurs in mountain gorillas ( Gorilla beringei beringei) groups where blackbacks can stay in their birth group even so they have a subordinate role to the dominant “silverback”. Males have to do it to avoid a conflict with the dominant leader for the females, and they must leave to avoid the dominant male to mate up with their female descendants and prevent crossbreeding. Typically, both females and males leave the group in which they were born and join other after reaching sexual maturity. Therefore, the first arriving has a higher status than newcomers, and so on. Sometimes, several single males get away from the group and decide to travel together.īreeding females organize in a hierarchy, according to the time in which they joined the troop. In some groups, another adult male can function as second in command, but always subordinated to the leader, and in particular cases, several “silverback” can cohabit and handle support. It also has the exclusive right to mate with females. Their tasks are: taking decisions, resolve conflicts, defend the group against the enemies, produce offspring, find new sites to feed, define the home area, when to eat, sleep, and so on. It is the oldest, usually an adult over 12 years of age, and the strongest, the one that becomes the master since it has the great responsibility to protect all members of his group. However, all males get that hair patch on their back when they reach maturity, but only one becomes the leader. The “Silverback” who leads a group, is easily recognized by a patch of silvery fur that covers its back. In average, groups have between 2 and 12 members and move around an area of 4 to 25 square kilometers.Īll males get the silvery hair patch on their back when they reach adulthood, but only one of them becomes the leader. Their composition varies over time due to events like the death of the young and the migration of individuals when they reach sexual maturity. Groups of western lowland gorillas ( Gorilla gorilla gorilla) appear to be smaller: up to 5 individuals. The troops are typically composed of 2 to 30 members from which 1 to 4 are male adults, and the rest are blackbacks, adult females, and their offspring. Males protect females and the offspring of the group, and in turn, the dominant male can access the females that are in heat. Similar to other primates, they are very social animals that live in groups. Furthermore, since they continually travel in search of food, they cannot control one area. Quite the opposite, they are gentle and non-territorial primates, which means that they do not stop other animals entering their living area. Some people think that gorillas are violent and territorial animals, but that is a myth. SatPhoneStore has been connecting customers since 1976 and is standing by and ready to help you find the best satellite phone to meet your communications needs. AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk (EPTT) services give your business a highly secure, instant group communication between dispatchers and the field on almost any. Navigating all the options for satellite internet can be confusing and complex, but SatPhoneStore makes it easy by providing thorough information online, an in depth knowledge base, online chat and agents available by phone to help users make informed decision and choose the solution that is the best fit for their needs. Some sat phone users have a need for data as well. Satellite phones are easy to use, but they work a little bit different than the cellular phones people are generally used to, so SatPhoneStore provides quick start guides and has a knowledgeable customer care team available seven days per week to help its users get connected. For that reason, there are docking stations or repeaters available for most satellite phone models on the market. For a sat phone to work inside a building they must be connected to an external antenna. The Telstra Mobile Network offers 4G in all. Satellite phones need to have a direct line of sight connection to a satellite in order to successful connect a call. To access Push to Talk you will need a Telstra service, compatible Enterprise mobile plan and compatible device. Most sat phones don’t have cutting edge touch screens, high end camera technology or apps, but they do work in areas and situations where cellular connected phones do not. Satellite phones don’t boast all of the features found in today’s smart phones. Satellite phones are also used by first responders, public safety professionals and organizations that have a need to stay connected during and after a natural disaster or other wide spread communications outage. Those who need to communicate out at sea, in the air or in other remote locations find that sat phones are often the only means available to stay connected with the rest of the world. Satellite phones have become a significant communications options for those who need to communicate while off the grid or have a mission critical communications need. A crazy story with crazy charactersīlue Estate is a darkly funny on-rails shooter with a crazy story about surreal characters, told by a clueless Private Detective, who’s being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Procrastination. With the next gen technologies from Sony we saw the opportunity of bringing this fun back to the Players. Why a rail shooter? The team felt nostalgic to the genre of light gun shooters and the gameplay inspirations came from old titles like Time Crisis, Virtua Cop and House of the Dead. For all the gestures we are using the touch pad, which gives the opportunity for unique gameplay experience, depending on how you choose to hold and interact with the controller. You basically point the controller and squeeze the trigger you don’t ever have to use the joysticks. It takes only seconds to get used to and hours to master. With the PS4 version we really wanted to bring the original arcade light gun feeling back without players having to buy extra accessories, so we decided to use the new gyroscope feature and the result was amazing. The only thing Tökkentäkker cares about is turning the world into a horror show, and there is no line he is unwilling to cross to get there.Hi PlayStation Blog Readers, this is Viktor Kalvachev author of Blue Estate comic books, and also working at HESAW. Completely without morals, he brutally tortures, mutilates and experiments on his own minions, creating horrible monstrosities in the process with the most extreme of this being Junior, a gigantic frankenstein'd mutant baby. He cares not how many innocents can perish by both the hordes of monsters under his command nor the nightmarish contraptions he creates and uses to deadly effect. Presumably, he is brought back to life.ĭiabolical, exceptionally intelligent, a severely twisted sense of humor and more than likely insane, Tökkentäkker is a shining example of two horror villain tropes merged into one a mad scientist, and a horrific circus ringmaster. Though presumed dead at first, the game's protagonist reinserts the token. After enough damage has been dealt, Ludwig falls into the blades of the ship, chopping him to bits and causing the airship to explode. Eventually the player corners him at the end of the airship, where he resorts to tossing bombs and shooting fireworks. When Umlaut dies, the player chases Ludwig around his airship, miles above the carnival, while avoiding his gunshots and skeleton soldiers. After the player (or players, depending on whether one or two people play) manage to get through the first three areas (Haunted House, Rickety Town and Freak Show), they will gain access to the main area, the Big Top.Īfter surviving his onslaught of killer clowns, mimes, poodles and clown doctors (where it's revealed that he has planned to put the protagonist's brain into a gorilla), he reveals himself and sends his flunky Umlaut to take care of him. Most homeschoolers think copywork is for 5, 6, and 7 year olds. You might remember Benjamin Franklin, worked on a copybook when he was in his teens. Did the author paint scenes very well.Ĭopybooks & dictation notebooks are some of the easiest notebooks to start. Or, write about how well the author practiced his craft. Record some of the questions & answers you’ve discussed about a book. Another option is to include 2 or 3 of your child’s narrations, with a final summary narration.Īs your students get older, they should interact with the book. You might want to include a book report or book review. There are lots of great printables and forms to use in a literature notebook. Or, illustrate one aspect of a book, such as a character or the setting. As they get older, they can illustrate a book or give a short, little synopsis. At first, you might simply record the titles of each book your child reads on their own. What about a literature notebook? Again, I would start very small. Look at the context as you do any Concordance study. Or someone else is saved from starvation. Someone in a boat is saved from drowning. We usually think of saved as simply saved from the penalty of sin. As you work through verses with salvation or saved in them, you ought to ask yourself, “Saved from what. One of my favorite Concordance studies is salvation or saved. If you’re not sure where to get started, I would say maybe the word “save” or “righteousness” or “wise”. Write down what they discover from each verse where that word is used. Give your kids a word to look up in a concordance. Then each teen writes down what they learned from those verses and how it applies to their lives.Īnother option is a Concordance study. Proverbs is a great book for both of the young men and young women, in their teen years. Or, they can keep a notebook about what they are learning personally in the bible. They can write a summary of what was read during family devotions. As your kids get older, start a Bible journal. We start in the Old Testament and move forward.Īgain, when your kids are young, illustrate and write a brief narration of that particular story. As they get older, you read directly from the bible. Let your kids illustrate each story and write a caption underneath their picture. If your kids are little, find a good storybook of Bible stories. So, let’s talk about some different kinds of homeschool notebooks and homeschool notebooking pages. Notebooks are an integral part of the Biblical Principle approach. She removed his saddle and packs before collecting feed from the stable. Dorn was the best of mounts, yet he would slow her down-and if he was unsettled now, his great heart might fail when they faced the beast. The strength of Hanan’s seed had not yet faded, however, and the combined might of ten warriors did not equal her own. The name of the ancestor who’d lain with the god had long since passed from human memory. Hanan’s blood also ran through Laina’s veins, though hers bled red rather than silver. There the beast lived, and as the ages passed, its descendants began hunting farther and farther south, making dens in caves of ice upon snow-capped mountains, their hatred for Hanan’s favored creatures feeding the fire that warmed their flesh. Enraged, the god grasped the beast in his fist and hurled its hulking mass into the far northern reaches, where desolate plains shivered against mountains of ice. The monstrous beast he whelped had not even opened its eyes before slashing at the god with deadly talons, rending Hanan’s flesh and spilling his silver blood. It was said the ice walkers were created after the insatiable god Hanan mated with a long-toothed snow cat and a Tarian ape, then spat the seed he’d drawn from both into his own godly womb. At the broad toes, sharp indentations in the snow indicated long, sickle-shaped claws.Īn ice walker-and that abominable beast was on the hunt. Outside, she trudged north across the clearing. A slaughter lay inside.Ĭold settled into her chest. The wide doors were ajar, held open by a horse’s bloodied hindquarters. But these remains were not burnt, so they had been dropped here before the flames started-as if, after killing everyone inside, the beast had gone in search of more. But one animal-or even a pack-would not attack an inn. Laina’s own blade had recently tasted the blood of a long-toothed cat that had stalked her over the mountain pass. There were many beasts that would kill and consume a human. The frigid mountain air skimmed over her teeth on a sharply indrawn breath. The joints were ragged, the flesh torn away in chunks. Shadows and the ring of dark earth around the walls had concealed the carnage until she was upon it. Blood stained the trampled snow nearer to the inn. Except for the occasional soft crackle of charred wood, all was quiet. The hem of her red cloak whispered across the snow as she approached the smoldering ruins. She drew her sword, gaze sweeping the moonlit clearing. The steadiest of horses in battle, Dorn wasn’t often unsettled. His big hooves stamped the snow in an uneasy, muffled beat. Beside her, Dorn shook his head and snorted plumes of steam. She dismounted, her boots sinking ankle-deep into the soft powder. A pyre would finish what the fire had begun. Silver-fingered Rani would carry their souls back into Temra’s arms, but that goddess did not take flesh with her, and Laina could not leave the bodies to rot. Perhaps the flames blocked their escape or they were too drunk to know death was upon them. That scent was not a roasted midwinter pig. A sickly-sweet scent joined the smoke on the wind. Around the building, the snow had melted, exposing a dark ring of earth. Author’s Note: This is a short piece that I wrote for a blog and features Mala’s cousin, Laina, who was mentioned in “The Beast of Blackmoor.” This takes place after that story but there are no spoilers for it.Īt the inn beyond the mountain pass, Laina found death instead of a midwinter celebration. |
